Cigar Smoke Air Purifier
for Cigar Rooms & Lounges
A cigar smoke air purifier is a HEPA and activated-carbon system that captures smoke particles and reduces odor in dedicated cigar rooms and lounges. Cigar smoke is uniquely difficult to clear—it’s dense, chemically complex, and persistent enough to settle into walls, fabrics, and ceilings for hours after the last draw. The Rabbit Air A3 and MinusA2 air purifiers are built for dedicated cigar rooms, home lounges, and commercial cigar lounges. Their six-stage filtration system captures smoke particles, gases, and odor compounds, while brushless DC motors keep the space quiet through the longest sessions. Featured by Cigar Aficionado as a top air purifier for smokers.
Engineered for the Demands
of Cigar Smoke.
Both the A3 and MinusA2 use a BioGS HEPA filter to capture smoke particles and a Charcoal-Based Activated Carbon stage to adsorb VOCs and odor compounds. Select the Odor Remover Customized Filter before checkout, formulated specifically for tobacco and cigar odors.
Even at maximum speed, the A3 reaches a mere 51 dBA and the MinusA2 reaches 51.3 dBA. Brushless DC motors keep both units quiet at every fan setting, through the longest sessions.
Both models stand on the floor or mount flat against the wall, keeping the floor clear. Mounting brackets are included with both units.
The A3 covers up to 535 ft² at 4 ACPH; the MinusA2 covers up to 408 ft². Use the room calculator below to find the right match for your dimensions.
Dual Hive Activated Carbon
The A3's Dual Hive Activated Carbon uses two offset layers of compact pellets with thinner frame walls to increase surface area for gas adsorption and reduce air resistance. In Rabbit Air's internal testing, this design delivered a 26.3% improvement in filtration efficiency over the earlier single-layer design, particularly for tobacco smoke, VOCs, and exhaust compounds.
MinusA2 sequence: Pre-Filter → Medium Filter → BioGS HEPA Filter → Odor Remover Customized Filter → Charcoal-Based Activated Carbon Filter → Negative Ions

Which Model Fits Your Space?
Cigar smoke is denser than typical household pollutants. For dedicated cigar rooms, aim for 4 or more air changes per hour (ACPH).
See the full ACPH Calculator →
For the most effective smoke removal, we recommend sizing up and running your unit on high or turbo speeds to maximize the air changes per hour (ACPH) in your lounge.
Once you've identified the right model, the setup guide below will help you get the most out of your unit.

Getting the Most from Your Air Purifier.
Placement
- Place the unit as close to the smoking area as possible
- For 8-foot ceilings, position the bottom of the unit at around 4 feet above the floor with 2 ft clearance above and 8 in. on each side
Ventilation
- Operates through its own filtration; no external ventilation required
- A cracked window, exhaust fan, or door-base draft stopper can complement the unit when available
Wall Mounting
- Brackets included with both models; wall screws not included. MinusA2: right-side up only. A3 can be mounted upside down for placements above 6 ft.

Filter Maintenance
- Replace the full set when smoke takes longer to clear. In dedicated cigar rooms, expect more frequent changes; see typical intervals in the cost section below. Clean the washable pre-filter monthly. The indicator is timer-based.

Smoke Eater vs. Air Purifier
The two terms are often used interchangeably, but they describe different technologies with different use cases.
Traditional Smoke Eaters
Ceiling-mounted systems built for bars and large venues. Most use electrostatic precipitators (ESPs), which trap oily cigar smoke on charged plates.
The tradeoffs:
- Plates require regular hands-on cleaning. Performance drops between cleanings.
- To clear dense smoke, ESPs move high volumes of air, typically producing 55 to 70 dBA of noise depending on the model and installation, forcing operators to turn units down during peak hours.
- Some units produce audible arcing as plates load, which can be distracting in quieter lounges.
- Ozone-generating versions are regulated in California and not recommended by the EPA for occupied spaces.
HEPA-Based Air Purifiers
Rabbit Air uses physical filtration through a six-stage system that captures particles, gases, and odors without producing regulated ozone.
- BioGS HEPA filtration: 99.97% efficiency at 0.3 microns; 99% efficiency down to 0.01 microns.
- Charcoal-based activated carbon: Adsorbs VOCs and odor compounds that particle filters alone cannot remove.
- Certified Zero Ozone: All Rabbit Air models are certified zero ozone (UL 2998).
- Quiet: 51 dBA at maximum, conversation-friendly across all fan settings.
The most expensive system to install is often the most expensive to maintain, too.
| System Type | First Cost | Maintenance Reality | Cost Trajectory |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ceiling-mounted Smoke Eater | High upfront | Frequent cleaning labor; performance loss if skipped. Typically requires a maintenance contract with an HVAC contractor. | Often rises over time with ongoing fees |
| Rabbit Air | Mid-range upfront | Simple filter replacement, no plate cleaning | Predictable and budget-friendly |
For larger lounges, Rabbit Air units work beautifully alongside existing ventilation. Many commercial customers use this hybrid approach to clean more air more effectively.
Exact figures vary by room size, ACPH target, and number of units. This comparison is directional. For a tailored cost analysis on your cigar room or lounge, contact Rabbit Air at 888.866.8862 (24/7).
For dedicated cigar rooms, home cigar lounges, and commercial cigar lounges, the HEPA and activated carbon approach delivers smoke and odor control with predictable maintenance—no plates to clean, no ongoing ozone management.

What Does it Cost to Run a Rabbit Air Purifier in a Cigar Room?
Efficient by Design
Both models use a brushless DC motor. Power draw scales with fan speed, so the unit uses minimal
electricity at lower settings.
A3: 5 to 60 watts | MinusA2: 6
to 61 watts
Both models are ultra-efficient; even at maximum speed, power draw remains minimal.
Plan for More Frequent Replacement
In a dedicated cigar room, filters will need replacing more often than the standard 12-month cycle.
| Category | Typical Frequency | Estimated Interval |
|---|---|---|
| Light | Less than once a month / Only on special occasions | 9–12 months |
| Moderate | 1 to 3 cigars a week / Mostly weekends or social events | Approx. 6–9 months |
| Daily | 1 or more cigars every single day | Approx. 3–6 months |

What Cigar Enthusiasts Are Saying
I've had the A3 in my dedicated cigar room for about six months. I smoke most evenings, and the room clears noticeably faster than it did with my previous purifier. No smell the next morning.
Bought the MinusA2 for a 12 by 14 home office where I smoke a couple of times a week. The air quality indicator is actually useful. It runs quietly enough that I forget it's on.
We run two A3 units in our lounge. Guests comment on the air quality regularly. Easy to maintain, and the wall mount keeps the floor clear for seating.
