What is HEPA?

HEPA stands for High Efficiency Particulate Air. One of the only filtration technologies capable of removing even the smallest particles, HEPA filters are commonly used in controlled environments around the world, including hospital operating rooms, ICUs and incubators, and even medical laboratories and other high-tech research and manufacturing facilities.

Why Is BioGS HEPA filtration better?

Our advanced BioGS HEPA filtration system builds and improves on the traditional HEPA—composed of an electrostatic-charged proprietary fiber material, it captures over 99.99% of airborne particles as small as 0.01 microns3. Unlike traditional HEPA filters that can accumulate odors and mildew, our BioGS HEPA filters trap common allergens2 and bacteria1, and reduce the growth of odor-causing bacteria and mold on the filter media to support optimum filter efficiency and prolong filter life.4

Rabbit Air BioGS HEPA Filter

The BioGS HEPA filter traps common allergens 2 and bacteria 1 and reduces the growth of odor causing bacteria and mold on the filter media.

How does it filter?

In addition to the four standard trapping mechanisms of conventional HEPA filters, our BioGS filter adds another: electrostatic attraction. This advanced mechanism ensures the highest performance for even for the smallest particles.

Sieving: Large particles get trapped between filter fibers.
Inertial Impaction: Smaller airborne particles slam into filter fibers and get stuck as the air travels through the filter at high speed.
Interception: Lighter particles that follow the air stream can be captured on the fibers as it flows through.
Diffusion: Air and gas molecules help derail the trajectory of particles that are smaller than 0.3 microns. This makes it almost impossible for the particles to pass through the filter without getting captured by its fibers.
Electrostatic: Our BioGS HEPA filters are electrostatically charged—The particles flowing through the filter are attracted to the charged fibers.

Footnotes

1. Airborne Capture Testing: Microbial capture efficiency testing by Intertek Laboratories (Report #105550219COL-001) used test samples including Escherichia coli (bacteria), MS2 virus, and A. niger (mold). Tests demonstrated 99.9% removal of these airborne contaminants within 45-60 minutes at the highest fan setting. Results demonstrate the mechanical removal of airborne contaminants from a controlled test chamber; real-world performance may vary.
2. Allergen Reduction: Allergen reduction testing performed by IBR Laboratories. Pet dander (Fel d1) and dust mite (Der p1) allergen reduction testing performed by Airmid Healthgroup for the A3.
3. 0.01 Micron Efficiency: Based on testing of Rabbit Air purifiers in a test chamber under modified SPS-KACA 002-132:2018 (Korea Air Cleaning Association standard): Removed 99.999% of 0.01-micron KCl aerosol particles over time at highest fan speed. Results include natural particle decay.
4. Mold Resistance: Filter media treated to inhibit mold growth as per ASTM G 21 and AATCC 30 test standards. Test samples included Aspergillus niger, Chaetomium globosum, Trichoderma virens, Penicillium funiculosum, and Aureobasidium pullulans. This treatment is intended to protect the filter media only; this product does not protect users or others against bacteria, viruses, germs, or other disease organisms.
5. VOC Reduction: VOC Reduction tests performed by Intertek laboratories for A3 SPA-1000N.
