What is HEPA?

HEPA stands for High Efficiency Particulate Air. One of the only filtration technologies capable of removing even the smallest particles, HEPA filters are commonly used in controlled environments around the world, including hospital operating rooms, ICUs and incubators, and even medical laboratories and other high-tech research and manufacturing facilities.

HEPA Filtration Process

Why Is BioGS HEPA filtration better?

Our advanced BioGS HEPA filtration system builds and improves on the traditional HEPA—composed of an electrostatic-charged proprietary fiber material, it traps particles as small as 0.1 microns in size at 99% efficiency3. Unlike traditional HEPA filters that might allow the growth of bacteria and viruses over time, our BioGS HEPA filters trap and reduce common allergens1 and bacteria2 trapped on the filter to support optimum filter efficiency and prolong filter life.

Common allergens 1 and bacteria 2 trapped and reduced by the BioGS HEPA filter over time.
BioGS HEPA Filter Typical HEPA Filter
Traps allergen and particles 0.3 microns in size at 99.97% efficiency and over 99% efficiency for particles less than 0.1 microns3 Yes Yes
Reduces common allergens 1 Yes No
Reduces the growth of bacteria and viruses on the filter 2 Yes No
Prolongs optimal filter efficiency Yes No

How does it filter?

In addition to the four standard trapping mechanisms of conventional HEPA filters, our BioGS filter adds another: electrostatic attraction. This advanced mechanism ensures the highest performance for even for the smallest particles.

HEPA Filtration Mechanisms: Sieving, Inertial Impaction, Interception, Diffusion, and Electrostatic
Large particles get trapped between filter fibers.
Smaller airborne particles slam into filter fibers and get stuck as the air travels through the filter at high speed.
Lighter particles that follow the air stream can be captured on the fibers as it flows through.
Air and gas molecules help derail the trajectory of particles that are smaller than 0.3 microns. This makes it almost impossible for the particles to pass through the filter without getting captured by its fibers.
Our BioGS HEPA filters are electrostatically charged—The particles flowing through the filter are attracted to the charged fibers.

Measured Performance

Rabbit Air's purifiers all use BioGS HEPA filters. Independent test shows our air purifier quickly reduces a plethora of pollutants from the air in a room.

3 Test data shows our HEPA filter (brand new or like-new) can trap particles 0.3 microns in size at 99.97% efficiency, and our air purifiers are able to remove 99.9% of 0.1 micron-sized particles from the air. Research data shows True HEPA-rated filters can trap particles less than 0.1 microns in size at higher than 99% efficiency.
