Where should I put my air purifier?

A common question among consumers is where to place an air purifier to ensure maximum effectiveness and efficiency. Believe it or not, the decision of where to put your air purifying unit can greatly influence its performance and the potential for air quality improvement in your home.

How large is the area that needs air purification?
First, it is important to evaluate the space that needs purification. Measure the square footage of the room or house that you intend to treat, as most air purifiers have a maximum amount of area they are able to cover; for instance, 650 sq ft. For larger rooms or whole house coverage, sometimes more than one air purifying unit is necessary. An air purifier with an effective coverage area that exceeds the actual size of the room it is placed in will simply clean more efficiently (more air changes per hour).

What is the ideal location for an air purifier?
The ideal location for air purifier is inside the room that needs to be treated. Please keep in mind the clearance requirement for different types of air purifiers. Depending on the air inlet and outlet locations, some air purifiers can be placed close to walls while others need more space around them, which can take up excess room. For example, if the air purifier draws air in from all sides, don't put it directly against the wall, as it will greatly reduce the overall efficiency of the unit.

Generally, most air purifiers require 1 to 2 feet clearance from the air intake.

If you have a space limitation or you would like to put the unit against the wall, we recommend you choose air purifier with front air inlet and top outlet.

Which rooms in your home or office are prone to the most pollution?
Consider the rooms that tend to harbor the most pollutants and/or allergens in your house; such as rooms inhabited by pets, a kitchen with an active oven and stove where smoke and grease accumulate, newly painted rooms or spaces with chemicals prone to offgassing. If there are smokers in your house, place air purifiers in rooms that tend to collect the most smoke and lack adequate circulation. Most domestic air purifying units are not designed to cover the entire house so it is often necessary to use more than one unit to accommodate an entire house. You can also consider putting your air purifier in the living room during the day and in the bedroom at night.

How much noise does it generate?
Some air purifiers are noisier than others, which is an important factor to think about. If an air purifier is loud, you probably don't want to have it running all night in your bedroom or any place where it might compete with conversation. However, some are very quiet and can be placed right next to the bed without interfering with sleep. Noise level is measured by a decibel rating of the air purifier. Most air purifier manufacturers provide the decibel measurement based on different speed levels. We do not recommend using any air purifier over 50 decibels in the bedroom since it will be too loud.
